Tiong Aw, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at the Tulane University.

 

Dr. Aw is a public health microbiologist. His primary research areas are coastal water quality and the interactions between disease-causing microorganisms (pathogens) and their environment, both in natural and engineered water systems. His research addresses the sources, fate, and transport of waterborne pathogens, particularly viruses, in water and wastewater systems. He has experience working directly with the water and wastewater industry on assessing innovative methods for monitoring pathogens, water and wastewater treatment technology, and the use of metagenomic approaches.

 

Before joining the faculty at Tulane, he was a research associate at the Michigan State University. He received his PhD in Environmental Microbiology from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and his BEng in environmental engineering from University of Technology, Malaysia.
