
Eric M.V. Hoek, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at University of California, Los Angeles and a faculty scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Hoek’s research explores the union of nanomaterials, membrane technology and electrochemistry for water, energy, food, health, and environmental applications. He has over 160 peer-reviewed journal articles, 30 primary patents filed, two books on sustainable desalination/water reuse and oil-and-gas-produced water management. Hoek served as Editor-in-Chief of the John Wiley & Sons Encyclopedia of Membrane Science & Technology and the Nature publication npj Clean Water.

Hoek has a BS from Penn State University, an MS from UCLA, and a PhD from Yale University – all in engineering.
